WINTER
We have split our
trips into 2 seasons. By "Winter" we mean early
November to late April (whereas "Spring to Autumn"
refers to May to October).
Winter in the Western
High Atlas generally means
snow on north facing slopes above the 2800m line, whilst in the Mgoun
region of the Central High Atlas the snowline is generally lower
at around 2350m on north facing slopes and around 3750m on south
facing. (This varies a bit during the season and
from year to year but gives you an idea of where to expect
encountering snow).
In both regions, the mountains are utterly transformed by the
snow and can turn easy trekking routes to serious winter
objectives.
They are also beautiful and it is one of our favourite seasons
here. We've
had some great winter trips over the past few years and you can see some of
the many photos we've taken in our photo gallery.
By clicking on this link, you can view our current calendar of
all our public open & private closed trips (opens in new window).
Whilst
all of the principal Atlas summits have been climbed, numerous
faces, gullies and ridges are totally unexplored. In fact over the past number of years, we have organised
small group trips to complete sections of high level ridges in the
Western High Atlas. In so doing, we are often the first or second party
ever to record our attempts.
Snowshoeing is not an
activity you would think of in Morocco but this is a land of
surprises! February and March are generally the best months - we
provide guided trips for small groups who are looking for some real
adventure!.
So - whatever you feel like doing in
winter here in the High Atlas, just Contact
Us with your ideas....
